Anatomic Information System

Representing data on a map or on a body enables the user to quickly check spatial or anatomical consistency. Showing where the cases of an epidemic disease occurred for instance can reveal a pattern easily identifiable. It can also show abnormalities such as pockets of safe areas which might actually be a side effect of the lack of reporting from several regional healthcare offices. These conclusions are very difficult to draw without a spatial representation as they depend on our prior knowledge of how diseases should spread.

By analogy with geographic information systems, we provide an anatomic information system that maps any healthcare data on a virtual model of the human anatomy. The aim of this solution is to improve the quality and the accessibility of information from healthcare data by confronting it to the users knowledge. As an example mapping medication and diagnosis on a virtual body, a doctor could easily check whether both relate to the same anatomical system. Inconsistencies can be quickly caught, which leads to early corrective actions and in the end to a higher quality of information. The Nhumi Anatomic Information System is based on Nhumi Semantics to automatically map healthcare data on the virtual body. |
